Dangers of obesity:

high blood pressure, heart diseases, unattractiveness, complicated pregnancy

High cholesterol in the diet can cause fat to build up in the liver – causing liver damage or even liver failure, or the arteries – causing hyperlipidemia, which can result in chest pain or even heart attacks. The risk of strokes is also increased by high cholesterol diets; and decrease in blood flow can lead to all manner of heart problems and high blood pressure. Gallstones are solid clusters of cholesterol, and these can form when a diet is excessively high in cholesterol.

It is the job of certain cells in the body to extract blood sugar. When these cells are overworked – i.e. when an excessive amount of blood sugar is present – the insulin-producing cells take over this role. They are not able, however, to keep this work up indefinitely, and once these cells stop working, a build up of blood sugar occurs. This can result in the development of type 2 diabetes.

Obesity also increases the risk of cancer, gout, varicose veins and osteoarthritis, but for many, its worst effects are psychological. Obesity can be particularly distressing when the initial overeating was a result of a depressive episode. Both depression and obesity can result in loss of energy, a low mood and feelings of unattractiveness and powerlessness, making many people suffering with both feel overwhelmed by the problems.
